Matching

Flirt Glossary – Matching

Matching is about suggesting the right candidate to the members of an online dating agency. In this way, users of such a platform are more likely to find the right partner.

This is achieved by comparing various profile data such as hobbies, profession, age, preferences and marital status. Experience has shown that in this way the success rate for choosing a partner increases significantly and thus also leads to the desired result of a long-term relationship.

Matching is considered a sophisticated alternative to the more superficial approach of selecting using external search criteria such as ethnic origin, hair color, height, etc.

Online dating platforms and online agencies in particular promise to have found a scientific “path to a harmonious partnership”. For example, Parship , one of the market leaders in Germany, creates an “objective analysis of personality” from 74 indirect questions.

This personality profile is compared using a computer with all other profiles in the database using an algorithm; Then it is assigned a matching score: the more points, the better the chances of a harmonious partnership. Parship reports a success rate of 38 percent. It is an exciting question whether such love mathematics actually works.

The Berlin social psychologist Gebauer thinks it is at least plausible: “Birds of a feather like to mix, that is still true in most cases,” says Gebauer. The research situation is still unsatisfactory, "but when it comes to personality, it also seems to be the case that a relationship works better when people are similar" - with one exception: "Dominant people get along better with submissive partners."
