Flirt Glossary – Trophy Wife
This term comes from the Anglo-Saxon language and translated into German means something like “trophy woman”, “prey woman” or “trophy female”. It is usually used derogatory and means a usually very attractive woman of a younger age who meets a (much) older, wealthy and professionally successful man and marries him.
In middle age, men with the appropriate social status, professional success and generous bank accounts often look for younger women, whose company they often flatter their own egos or, to a certain extent, adorn themselves with. In this sense, the women act as a presentable trophy.
On the other hand, such women are often suspected of being primarily interested in his success, money and influence. “gold digger” is also used to describe women who are deliberately looking for a wealthy man.
The use of this term is certainly influenced by clichés and not every woman with a significantly older partner is with him for the reasons mentioned.
There has also been a TV series with the same name since 2013.
Most Famous Trophy Wife
With an age difference of 63 years, the wedding between former Playmate Anna Nicole Smith and oil billionaire James Howard Marshall seen as an exceptional example of such a relationship. At the time of their marriage, Marshall was already 89 and Smith was just 26 years old.
