voyeurism describes a form of sexuality in which a person becomes sexually aroused by secretly looking at people undressing or naked, or by observing sexual acts.
The voyeurist (also known as a “peeping tom” ) is turned on by just watching. It doesn't matter whether this happens secretly or whether you watch your partner masturbating, for example.
The counterpart to voyeurism is exhibitionism .
Candaulism is when the viewer and a couple who are performing sexual acts know about each other .
Any form of viewing naked or sexually active people that serves to increase pleasure can be described as voyeurism. This pleasure in looking is also used for commercial purposes, such as peep shows or striptease shows .
In recent decades the term voyeurism has been expanded. Onlookers at disasters or accidents, which often hinder rescue efforts, are now often no longer referred to as “gazers” but as voyeurists.
