Technically speaking, a marriage is a socially recognized partnership between two people, which is established by generally applicable, mostly legal rules and is referred to as spouses, married couples or spouses. The term “marriage” comes from Old High German and is linguistically based on “eternity, right, law”.
However, a marriage or even a marriage is by no means just a purely technical process/condition. As a rule, there are great feelings involved and for many married couples, getting married is one of the most valuable moments in life. If you enter into a marriage with your life partner, it is probably the ultimate proof of love.
But before that happens, it takes a lot of trust and you should have spent a certain amount of time together to test whether a partnership even works! Once you have spent a few years in a close and harmonious partnership, marriage is the next logical step in your life partnership. You bond even closer to each other and send a clear signal that you are serious and want to dedicate the rest of your life to your spouse. It's not for nothing that people talk about the safe haven of marriage.
