long-distance relationship

Online Dating Glossary – Long Distance Relationship

Long distance relationships are becoming more and more common. Almost every eighth couple lives in this form of partnership these days.

The job usually leads to a temporary separation.
But there are also people for whom living apart at times is a desired form of relationship. For them, distance is not a problem, but rather part of a relaxed relationship. The following applies to everyone: in a long-distance relationship you should not allow the distance between you to become too great. A partnership is strengthened through shared experiences. It is therefore necessary to always keep your remote counterpart “up to date”. Preferably face-to-face – definitely feasible in the age of Skype and smartphones. Let others participate in your life.

When you meet, don't expect too much. High expectations put your counterpart under pressure and can easily lead to disappointment. Just try to turn the tables: consider the weekend together as everyday life and the working week as a special case.

Don't break up in an argument. A bad feeling that you take with you “far away” grows there more than you would like. It's hard enough being alone. It is better to take a piece of love with you into the time without your partner.

See the time of separation as a confirmation of your relationship. You have obviously met the right person to overcome this difficulty with you. With this partner you can do everything else too!
