Lolita complex

Flirt Glossary – Lolita Complex

The Lolita complex (also nymphophilia from nymph and -philia) is a strong erotic or sexual desire of men from middle age towards girls or young women.

The name originally comes from the novel of the same name “Lolita” by the author Vladimir Nabokov from 1955 and was established in its current meaning over the following years.

Related to this is the term nymphophilia, which comes from English and describes a condition in which a middle-aged man feels attracted to a girl who is in the age range from just before puberty to a teenager and also the type of girl child woman can be assigned.

In colloquial terms, however, the definition of these terms is often less precise and, depending on cultural conventions, includes quite a lot as long as the age difference is large enough. This means that the young women in question do not necessarily have to be minors. Rather, it refers to a relationship between adult men and young girls in general.

Controversies

The discussions about the book “Lolita” and the Lolita complex – which, by the way, is not a recognized complex among psychoanalysts – have always been bitter and controversial between the two camps of feminists and masculinists. To put it simply, the question is usually whether the young women actively seduce on their own or whether they are deliberately seduced by more experienced men.

However, it can be said that men who experience nymphophilic tendencies and actively seek contact with minors are clearly exceeding the boundaries that the state and society have created to protect young people.
