Online Dating Glossary: Bromance
A “bromance” (or English: “bromance”) refers to a close male friendship that is NOT gay. This beautiful portmanteau is a neologism of brother and romance.
This is about a very close form of male friendship that is not just about drinking beer together or doing strength training in the fitness center. Here the men talk in the way we are used to talking about women, especially in sitcoms (such as Scrubs, Friends, How I met your Mother, ...).
The men who are friends completely reveal their emotional world to the other person and share their fears, wishes, hopes and self-doubts with the other person. You can therefore almost compare it to a traditional relationship, except that there are no sexual acts involved. Physical contact is only friendly.
In such bromances it is often reported that a man has found his soul mate, his confidant, who complements and perfects him.

To a certain extent, this term is also a reflection of our modern and increasingly feminine society. We were raised by our mothers. In kindergarten it was the teacher and in school it was usually teachers. We were raised to be feminine, so to speak. So why not use more feminine characteristics for male friendships?
This is how feminine men get what they really need: no endless drinking sessions or silent training next to each other...but closeness, affection, understanding, fun, attention, small gifts, and attention through the same interests. All of this is what makes a bromance.
